Backcountry Hot Springs

Backcountry Hot Springs

Aguas Calientes is a back valley hidden at the base of the Volcan Viejo of Nevados de Chillan. You can only  access it by snowmobile, Heliski or hiking. The valley is a giant bowl that collects the waters of the thermal underground activity of the volcanic complex. The only way out of the valley is the same way you came in, the valley collects all the water of the warm streams and funnels into waterfalls downstream. The valley has more than 20 streams of different temperature thermal water, size, depth and water flow. Because of the thermal activity the valley has its own ecosystem which holds endemic wildlife and plants that live year round in this micro climate.

On our trip we can access this valley in various ways, all depending on the energy of  the group and budget. The options bellow are ordered from low to high budget.

Backcountry touring set up  /  Splitboard : If everyone has their gear and is experiences in touring we can hike and hike out. The total length will vary on group energy, but expect to have a full day of back country.

Snowmobile assisted exit. is the best and most affordable option but not always available.

Snowmobile full day; by far the most memorable and exciting experiendce if you are looking to cover large amounts of terrain and get to appreciate the vastness of the area.

Heliski day : heliski in the valley of Las trancas varies from year. the market has not stabilized enough to create a consistent business. Heliski will depend on the availability of the pilots and helicopters. Sometimes the helicopters might be parked a couple hours away , therefore getting the heli to the resort will be an added cost.

Snow Camping in Aguas Calientes is a once in a lifetime experience. Let us know if you want to bring a 1000 fill power down sleeping bag for an over night at the base of an active Volcano.

All these activities are weather and group dependent based on goals, objectives and safety.
